Management skills 'key to staff happiness'

09 December 2008

Developing management skills through training could be key to keeping staff happy, one expert suggests.

Management pundit Martin Haworth makes his comments in an article distributed by Ezine, explaining a negative supervisor experience can cause employees to lose moral and become less productive.

He argues that trust, communication and strong business ethics are vital attributes of a manager able to effectively supervise their people.

"Managers should create a moral value system for the workplace. Teams which have a common ethic are healthier, resourceful, adaptable and productive because of the common root of their consistent value systems," Mr Haworth continues.

He recommends bosses consider the language they use when dealing with staff, as using "we" instead of "us" can make a difference in how an employee views their position in the company.

Line managers can also affect the success of workplace training schemes, it was recently claimed.

Andrew Gee, project manager for the World of Learning conference, said a lack of "line manager buy-in" can cause staff training to be less successful.ADNFCR-1303-ID-18921012-ADNFCR
