Management training 'can improve staff commitment'
14 January 2009
Management training which focuses on the effective supervision of the workforce is likely to reduce absences, a leading organisation asserts.
Ben Willmott, a senior public policy advisor with the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, claims teaching managers how to motivate their teams is likely to improve a business' performance.
He says issuing clear objectives and offering well-thought out constructive feedback could be key issues and can lead to employees feeling more committed to the organisation.
Mr Willmott states: "If people have a manager that manages them properly
they are less likely to take time off sick unnecessarily."
He also emphasises the importance of consultation and communication with employees, suggesting management training which succeeds in improving this area could positively impact on business performance.
Recent advice from FirstCare on minimising the stress workers experience states transparency and information dissemination are key areas which can make a difference to workplace wellbeing.
