Management training 'makes IT firms more attractive to female employees'

25 March 2009

Offering effective management and leadership training programmes is one of the ways that IT companies can attract a higher number of female employees, an expert asserts.

Jerri Barrett, director of marketing at the Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology, claims that technically-minded females often value professional development highly.

She says that women employees will often consider the training programmes on offer from potential employers, including both technical and leadership courses.

"There are a number of best practices for employers [looking] to recruit and retain more women into the workforce," she asserts.

Ms Barrett also emphasises the importance of establishing a clear and balanced criteria to determine promotions and implementing mentoring programmes which offer equal access to women.

Nigel Paine, former head of training and development at the BBC and managing director of a self-named company, recently told TrainingZone.co.uk that a high level of employee engagement can improve the effectiveness of these programmes.ADNFCR-1303-ID-19092522-ADNFCR
