Management training most important, 81% claim

24 March 2009

Management and leadership training are the areas which 81 per cent of professionals identify as the most important abilities to embed in their organisations, a new study shows.

Research published by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) finds 70 per cent rate learning as one of their continuing priorities.

Of the 900 learning, training and development managers surveyed, 61 per cent say their talent programmes currently include a focus on line managers.

This is due to their key role in helping deliver effective training to their teams, the group claims.

Claire McCartney, learning, training and development adviser at the CIPD, says that effective upskilling can have a valuable impact on staff performance.

She states: "The importance of training line managers will also be crucial to building the resilience needed to emerge in good shape for recovery … They will have a big role to play."

Jeff Schmitt, writing for Sales and Marketing, recently emphasised the important role that people skills should be given in management training.ADNFCR-1303-ID-19090241-ADNFCR
