New report 'could require appraisals training to implement'

18 May 2009

A new report suggests that it is crucial for firms to implement a strong performance management strategy, highlighting the need for appraisals training.

John Wiley and Sons Performance Management: A New Approach for Driving Business Results document emphasises the importance of achieving results through these processes.

It states that there are circumstances and roles where training in these areas will be ineffective but says that, where effective, learning and appraisals training must go beyond best practice to focus on the fundamentals of these assessments.

The report states: "The overall model is based on setting clear performance expectations and objectives, identifying and motivating employee behaviour that is critical for effective functioning."

It also highlights the need for the introduction of cascading goals which implement the company's strategy, which could require appraisals training.

Charles Cotton, reward advisor at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, recently claimed that the banking sector could gain from the introduction of performance management training which emphasises the need for a more holistic approach to rewards.ADNFCR-1303-ID-19175528-ADNFCR
