Northumbria Water 'trains future leaders'

Management training has played a key part in a FTSE-250 company's drive to improve the quality of its leadership, a source reveals.
Northumbria Water deployed coaching as a way to accelerate the development of a business culture which promoted values of engagement and participation, People Management reports.
Throughout the sessions, top-level executives were encouraged to go back through their histories and pick out those events which inspired growth.

The company aims to identify and promote a new chief executive officer within the next five years and is also using the courses in order to upskill candidates for the position.

He states the importance of learning to appreciate staff and putting the team's interests first mean people can have the potential to be very poor leaders if they do not approach the job with the right attitude.
