Poll puts communication and IT at top of training list

30 May 2008

Communication and IT skills are top of the training list for British people, according to a new survey.

TrainingZone reports that employees, senior managers and administrators were polled following this month's national Learning at Work day.

Figures subsequently analysed by the charity Campaign for Learning revealed a general consensus that IT skills will be the most important to possess by 2020.

Respondents were asked their opinions on the most important skills for the coming era, as well as the most beneficial to their career at present.

"IT skills in all forms came out on top as the most important for the future with 27 per cent, followed closely by communication skills at 23 per cent and, finally, adaptability came in third with 13 per cent," remarked the publication.

"Entrants included employees from a range of sectors and levels, but across the board similar skills gaps were revealed," it continued.

Careers author and adviser Sarah Berry suggested this week that the credit crunch heralds a need for employees to be encouraged to take up opportunities for training and development to safeguard their positions.ADNFCR-1303-ID-18616585-ADNFCR
