Presentation training 'must incorporate slideshow skills'

11 February 2009

PowerPoint slideshows can compromise an otherwise effective presentation, highlighting the need for comprehensive communication training.

Aaron Stannard, SmartDraw.com's community outreach manager, tells Sales and Marketing many executives make the mistake of misusing the application and committing what he describes as "death by PowerPoint".

He says those designing a presentation must incorporate the effect that visual aspects of communication can have on an audience and doing too much or too little could result in poor performance.

Mr Stannard states a well-organised slideshow can allow executives giving presentations to effectively concentrate attention on the point at hand and guide them through complicated proposals.

He says that when it is used well the visual aids can also help build towards punch lines, further increasing audience involvement, the news provider reports.

Last month, Joe Hoare, who describes himself as a laughter facilitator, told TrainingZone.co.uk that humour and spontaneity could help make training courses more engaging.ADNFCR-1303-ID-19021153-ADNFCR
