Productivity boosting is high on HR agenda

11 February 2008

Increasing the productivity of the workforce has become the top human resources (HR) priority for employers in the UK.

Employment firm Manpower found that 23 per cent thought boosting productivity was the main HR aim in 2008, compared to just seven per cent in 2007.

This could see employers around the UK engaging in more employee training schemes in order to get the most out of them.

Manpower UK managing director Mark Cahill said: "New year, new challenges, means new priorities for employers. Improving labour force productivity and maximising efficiency is currently top of the company health-check agenda.

"We believe one of the key ways to improve workforce productivity is to respect, value, and reward your staff. We spend time advising many of our clients on not only how to attract and recruit staff, but also how to remunerate, reward and retain their existing workforces."

Other top concerns for employers include staff retention (down to second from the number one spot last year), adapting to new legislation and introducing new technology.
