Pub firm to invest in training ahead of spending slowdown
10 January 2008
Marston's Pub Company is to launch a training initiative to help landlords cope with an anticipated consumer spending slowdown.
Economists are predicting that Britons will spend less in 2008, meaning that performance management training will be invaluable, allowing companies to improve efficiency.
Marston's will conduct financial planning and target marketing training, more than 500 sessions in all, Personnel Today reports.
These will take place at various venues around the country, and will be assessed by business development managers.
"I think we are all realistic about the economy and what this means for businesses. In this climate it's even more important that people have good financial controls and that any marketing is cost effective and relevant," said Marston's commercial manager Karl Czinege.
"It's so easy to waste money, for example, like running karaoke nights in a pub where the average customer is over 55 or serving gourmet food if you mainly attract families with small children. It sounds simple, but it's amazing how many people get this side of things wrong."
