Regeneration workers 'not receiving leadership training'
05 December 2008
A number of regeneration professionals assert they are still not being trained in generic skills, including leadership.
Responding to a survey on careers and salaries conducted by industry resource Regen.net, many workers claimed their skills are not being honed.
A number said they have not received any workplace training on leadership and project management, despite Sir John Egan's investigation four years ago which concluded these are the skills required to ensure sustainable communities are developed.
This review identified that professionals, planning authorities and developers all need training and development in order to improve the service offered.
He said then that the country needs "skills such as the ability to create a vision, leadership to achieve buy-in to the vision, communication, teamworking, project management, process re-engineering, understanding sustainable development, effective financial management".
Sir John warned a shortage of appropriate skills in the sector could prevent Britain from delivering its sustainable communities plan.
