Skills funding for north-east university

09 January 2008

Northumbria University has received £350,000 of funding from a regeneration agency in order to help develop employee skills.

The money, from agency One NorthEast, will be used to fund skills development in the north-east region, Personnel Today reports.

Learning programmes in sectors such as business services, defence and marine, energy, health, social care, and food and drink will benefit.

"This funding will offer the university a great opportunity to enhance its capacity and capability to develop and deliver employer-led programmes which is vital to ensure that the region's workforce is geared up to meet the challenges of the 21st century," said Northumbria University's work-related learning manager Sue Graham.

One NorthEast is the regional development agency that covers Northumberland, Tyne & Wear, County Durham and Tees Valley.

It's vision is "vibrant, self reliant, ambitious and outward looking region promoting the benefits of living, working and doing business" in the area.
