Staff appraisals can help monitor business performance
15 January 2008
Staff appraisals are an invaluable way of monitoring business performance.
Writing on nebusiness.co.uk, Carole White of Tedco argues that appraisals are a good way to set out clear objectives, so that employees understand what is expected of them.
"It can also help employees feel that their good work is recognised and that they are valued," she continued. "It can provide the opportunity to discuss any weaknesses or problems they may have, and to come up with solutions."
Defining targets can also help with identifying ways in which the business could run more efficiently, and also provides an opportunity for constructive feedback.
Such appraisals are usually run by line managers - for whom performance management training is invaluable. Skills learned include making sure enough time is set aside for the sessions, keeping records of staff performance throughout the year, and ensuring that employees know what the next steps are.
