Training 'can be maximised through increasing employee engagement'

17 March 2009

In order to maximise the effectiveness of training, the level of employee engagement in firms needs to be increased, an expert assets.

Nigel Paine, former head of training and development at the BBC and managing director of nigelpaine.com, tells TrainingZone.co.uk that learning is most useful for those who are motivated to put this into practice.

He suggests that bored, cynical individuals are unlikely to experience much of an impact from training programmes and suggests this needs to be addressed in order to maximise the effectiveness of these schemes.

Mr Paine states: "The key missing element from all of this activity is some quantification of the motivation and desire to use what has been learned. This is more about the working environment rather than the learning environment."

Recent research published by StepStone suggests that half of businesses are looking to run training courses during 2009.

Colin Tenwick, its chief executive, claims that classic people management is becoming more common, with firms focusing on developing talent.ADNFCR-1303-ID-19078985-ADNFCR
