Training 'improves engagement and activity'

14 May 2009

Learning of all types helps to improve productivity, whether this is performance management training or yoga, an expert claims.

Dr John McGurk, learning and talent development adviser at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, says there is a strong case for teaching adults to put new skills to use.

He states: "Learning in itself, as long as it is done in a cost effective way, is a good thing for people."

Among the advantages that offering performance management training and other developmental programmes can provide are included improvements to engagement and societal awareness, as well making people more active.

Dr McGurk states that the skills agenda has traditionally prioritised employment-based learning due to the strong practical case behind this.

According to the UK Commission for Employment and Skills' Ambition 2020: World Class Skills and Jobs for the UK report, it is important for skills development to align the areas where training is encouraged with the requirements of business.

It suggests that leaders and managers are essential to company strategy and positioning, with organisational success reliant on the training they have received.ADNFCR-1303-ID-19170762-ADNFCR
