Training and development 'boost profits as well as performance'
26 September 2008
The employee engagement benefits represented by training and development opportunities have been highlighted during a gathering of business leaders this week.
Boosting profits and bolstering the economy were some of the advantages of training initiatives outlined by engagement specialists David MacLeod and Nita Clarke as they met with business secretary John Hutton.
The cabinet member was seeking to explore new ways of improving British business success and the performance of employees.
Ms Clarke, director of specialist workplace involvement body the Involvement and Participation Association, remarked that genuinely engaging with employees "at all levels" brings huge benefits to the workplace.
"It is crucial for the wellbeing and personal development of employees and it also addresses the key issues of increasing productivity and managing change," she continued.
According to the former ministerial adviser, the latter are vital for businesses and services keen to meet the competitive challenges of today's economy.
The meeting comes on the heels of this month's Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development annual conference and exhibition, where people managers from the BBC, Coca-Cola Company and Prudential exchanged ideas about the business benefits of training and performance management.
