Training for coaches 'must include tailoring courses for gen Y staff'
11 March 2009
Training for those who will be coaching young people should examine the traits of generation Y (gen Y) employees and show how to tailor courses to these qualities, an expert asserts.
Claire McCartney, organisation and resourcing advisor at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), tells Training Zone that learning for these workers must be interactive if it is to be successful.
She identifies the group as enjoying stimulation and variety, with opportunities to take advantage of coaching and mentoring.
"A good form of development is to create project groups and encourage participants to develop new business products or solutions and work on 'real issues'," she advises.
Ms McCartney tells the news provider that bespoke and tailored courses guiding their training through the company are also embraced by these individuals.
Joe Hoare, who describes himself as a laughter facilitator, recently emphasised the importance of repetition and humour in training, according to the website.
