Training investment leads to 'real buzz' for Cumbria firm
03 June 2008
Bosses at a Cumbria company have sought to spread the word about the benefits of staff training.
Speaking to reporters about his commitment to performance management and skills development, the operations director of Bells of Lazonby said there is a "real buzz" among employees as a result.
"We have seen improved morale, lower absence and staff turnover rates, reduction in paperwork errors and the embracing of computers on the shop floor," Philip Callaghan told The Cumberland News.
"The results have been fantastic - there has been a real buzz as people see the benefits within and outside work."
Bells, which is based near Penrith, provides a wide range of baked goods to UK retailers and has garnered a number of awards for its dedication to training and staff development.
In a poll of employees, senior managers and administrators carried out last month, communication and IT skills were identified as top training priorities in British organisations.
According to TrainingZone, the results - subsequently analysed by charity Campaign for Learning - revealed a general consensus that IT skills will be the most important to possess by 2020.
