Training necessary to reap technology benefits

03 June 2008

Further management training should be considered by bosses keen to reap the benefits of web 2.0 technology, it has been suggested.

Representatives for web 2.0 security specialist WorkLight explained to Online Recruitment magazine that almost half of managers do not currently understand those benefits.

David Lavenda, the organisation's vice president of marketing and product strategy, cited the results of a recent survey indicating that many managers "have not had the experience or training required".

"Embracing the B2B and B2C benefits of web 2.0 services such as Facebook and MySpace is something that requires a thorough understanding of web protocols and usage patterns," he observed.

"Lack of understanding is something, however, that can be solved with a little education and/or training," he added.

The aforementioned study, carried out by training experts in conjunction with Bournemouth University, indicated that around a third of IT personnel also lack adequate understanding of the capabilities of web 2.0.
