Workers do not feel motivated

21 April 2008

New research has found that almost one-third of employees in the UK feel de-motivated in their current role, while four in ten are considering leaving their jobs.

Research carried out by YouGov on behalf of Investors in People UK, discovered that nearly half of the workers interviewed felt unsupported by their managers and believed they received no support after their initial induction to their positions.

Factors such as an unreasonable workload, being underpaid and a lack of a defined career path were also cited as reasons for low morale.

Simon Jones, chief executive at Investors in People UK, believes companies could lose talented staff as a result of neglect.

"This research reveals a worrying picture, not only because such a significant proportion of UK employees are de-motivated, but because it suggests that valuable employees may be heading for the door," he stated.

Workers who had been with their firms for a period of one to two years were most likely to search for new employment, with 48 per cent saying they would.

YouGov is a research organisation which claims it utilises the internet to gather in-depth research and data on staff and customers.
