Workplace management benefits Nestle

18 March 2008

Global food company Nestle has reported improvements to productivity and efficiency after investing in workplace management practices and staff training.

Managing director Sullivan O'Carroll said the company's mission directed work teams (MDWT) programme has enabled staff to meet key performance targets, Malaysian news provider the Star reports.

The programme was introduced in 2005 and has so far involved 3,000 employees.

Mr O'Carroll told reporters at the MDWT Conference 2008 that the company allocated five to six per cent of its annual total payroll for staff training and development.

Production executive director Dr Magdi Batato said: "MDWT is a very powerful goal alignment tool as it provides clarity and simplicity at the shop floor by breaking the goals to single targets and tasks that the frontline can impact and influence."

The news provider reports that around 300 participants from Nestle Australia, India, Indonesia, South Africa, the Philippines, Singapore and Malaysia attended the conference.

Meanwhile a survey by the Sunday Times recently revealed that employees are often vague about leadership issues in their workplaces.

An analysis of responses from the Sunday Times 100 Best Companies To Work For survey concluded that business leaders need to work harder to engage with a significant minority of "floating voters" if they want their staff to work more efficiently.
