Improved maths and writing skills to be toasted in York
19 June 2008
Improved maths and writing skills are among the achievements of young York workers to be recognised at a special ceremony next week.
Presented by Bill McCarthy, the City of York council's chief executive, the Celebration of Achievement bash is intended to acknowledge workers for their cooperation and determination to apply what they have learned through training.
"The awards ceremony is a great chance to recognise the hard work and dedication of the young people," Christine Carlton, an organiser of the ceremony, remarked to the York Press.
Over 20 individuals are lined up for recognition following efforts to hone their maths, writing and other workplace skills including customer service and management, team leading and training and development.
Careers author and adviser Sarah Berry noted last month that the credit crunch presents a key opportunity for bosses to facilitate employee training and development, primarily to safeguard staff positions.
She singled out writing skills as ripe for improvement within organisations which value report-writing, in addition to mental arithmetic, presentation skills, IT competence and leadership skills.
