Talent retention can be addressed with staff training

02 November 2007

A large turnover in the number of permanent and contract workers being recruited suggests that employers could do more to provide their staff with in-house training.

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) carried out an Annual Industry Turnover and Key Volumes Survey and found that turnover has increased by seven per cent in the recruitment industry, Personnel Today reports.

This shows that more people are choosing to leave jobs and seek others, a problem that employers could address by providing more training. Customer service training, writing training and performance management training all have their part to play.

In fact, the growth demonstrated in the survey is the highest increase since the report was first put together in 2001.

"The results show another strong year of growth for the recruitment industry," said REC director of research Roger Tweedy.

"The findings undoubtedly reflect some of the big issues of the last year - a growing economy, increased levels of labour immigration, and the intensifying issue of talent attraction and retention."
