Waltham Forest Council Lacking In Certain Areas

Waltham Forest Council has been assessed in areas such as performance management, prioritisation and ambition, and has been found wanting in some departments.

A council-approved peer review study by council officials from Oldham, Southwark, Salford and Portsmouth found that Waltham Forest Council has good financial management skills, and is able to deliver basic services well.

However, it also found that there is no clear plan for the future and the regeneration is being held back, the local Guardian newspaper found.

"The priorities for the council and the community in the longer-term are unclear. Similarly regeneration priorities are unclear," the report stated.

"Although there are examples of specific initiatives that have benefited local people in terms of regeneration and redevelopment, these are not on a scale that would impact significantly on their localities."

Councillors have been called on to develop better long-term vision.
