Lovell's Management Training Scheme Is A Success

Housing specialist Lovell's management training scheme is bringing the company significant benefits.

The Lovell Management Development Academy provides trainee managers with a structured introduction to their careers, the Midlands Housing website reports.

It identifies where their strengths lie and shows young workers the kind of tasks they can expect to do in the future. They can then choose the specific area they want to focus on.

One of the possible stars of the future is 21-year-old Mark Rimmer, who has begun his second year of management training, having begun working for Lovell as an apprentice joiner.

"Careers in construction run in my family so it was always something I'd considered doing for myself," he said.

"I was fortunate because I'd already completed my apprenticeship with Lovell, so I knew a bit about what the company is like to work for and what would be expected of me."

He is now gaining surveying experience at a Lovell development in Liverpool.

Lovells regional director Nigel Yates pointed out that its is vital to recruit talented young people.

"ConstructionSkills, the sector skills council for construction, estimates that 88,000 new recruits are going to be needed in the industry each year until 2010," he said.

Meanwhile, ConstructionSkills is calling on employers in the industry to take on more apprentices "or risk being unable to deliver on the significant growth forecast".
